Islamabad: Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad (SI, HI, NI), the renowned Pakistani Nuclear Physicist and a former head to Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, has passed away on January 18, 2018 (Thursday).

As confirmed by media, Dr. Ishfaq was severely ill and hospitalized since the second week of 2018. His death was confirmed on Thursday evening.

Dr. Ishfaq was a great theoretical physicist who made significant developments in the field of particle physics. His works led him to be awarded by the government with Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Nishan-i-Imtiaz in the 20th century.

Involved in Pakistan’s atomic nuclear tests at Chaghi (Balochistan), Dr. Ishfaq earned public and international fame in May 1998 for being a passionate supporter of ways in which nuclear energy can be used peacefully.
