Staff Report LHR: A conference on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) titled as “Emerging Technologies: Redefining Governance in the Information Age” was recently held at Arfa Software Technology Park, Lahore which was jointly organized by Information Technology University (ITU) and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).


The objectives of conference were to create awareness regarding to the trends in ICT industry which could be optimally utilized to enhance the service delivery in various fields of governance effectively.


Dr. Umar Saif, Vice Chancellor ITU and Chairman PITB, recounted the contributions of PITB in fostering the IT and use technology for a wide array of governance tasks. Dr. Umar talked, specifically mentioned the anti-dengue App, the e-learn Punjab platform, the crime mapping initiative, and various other eminent projects.


Zaheer Sarwar, Registrar ITU remarked, “The conference is an important initiative in technology sector growth and its utilization in various sector of governance.”


A presentation on forthcoming project to use technology in police department to equip them for better operation was also given at final session of the conference.


Various aspects of incorporation of IT in different government sectors were discussed so to aid governance which will subsequently improve their performance reducing time to a greater extent.


The conference was attended by notable number policymakers, senior government officials, academicians, professionals from IT industry, individuals from the development sector.
