Science communication is the key for the proclamation of science between scientific and non-scientific community. Quality science communicators must be good in making intricate topics easily understandable to a lay audience to overcome Science Literacy.

Scienece Literacy Key to National Development

 Science Communication workshop organized by Technology Times in collaboration with University of Buner on “Popularizing Science through Science Communications” at 4th  Invention to Innovation Summit held at CECOS University, Peshawar.

Engr. Sardar Ali from University of Buner discussed about “Remedial Measures for Misunderstanding of Science in Pakistan”. Misconceptions are extremely difficult to change. Highlights the misconception sources, consequences and remedies of science. Sources like textbooks, electronic media, and teachers are the base that only sticks to the textbook knowledge and stops innovation and experiments.

However, the remedy should be providing clear objectives and requirements, accept the facts and come out of their ego to minimize the misunderstanding of science.

Dr. Faizan Wazir from University of Science & Technology Bannu affirmed regard to “Communicating Science to Non-Scientific Audience/Society.” Science should be presented in non-formal background that can easily understand by the public.

While giving his address he further stated the famous quote of Albert Einstein “You don’t really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother “. The quote of Albert Einstein should be the motto of all professionals communicator’s to bridge the gap between the non-scientific communal, he added.

Sayyed Paras Ali, CEO Technology Times explained that without a clear understanding of science, it is impossible for general public to engage in meaningful thought, debate, or actions regarding some of the most pressing, controversial, and consequential matters which are facing our society. Language barriers create a gap among the scientists, technologists, journalists and the laymen and it can only be eliminated by making science simple and understandable for all, he further added.

Dr. Muhammad Imran from Quaid-I-Azam University explained that “significance of popular scientific communication in bridging the gap between science and society.”

He explained that popular science communication supports learning, spread knowledge to the society but it requires more funds and betterments for the science popularization. Science & Society does not stick on to any particular school and does not define precise boundaries.

Project Director of the University of Buner Dr. Muhammad Farooq affirmed Science Popularization at the workshop and stressed upon the video content that do not share until the content is authentic because due to falsification a misconception incite that is devastating the genre.

He further acknowledged that higher education becomes the precedence instead of lower education which is the core for any platform. Lower education requires more intention with the upgradation in the teaching culture.

He focused on plagiarism; our talented youth had the power to excel without copy and paste. And the end of his talk he highlighted the R&D research and development according to deen. The importance of R&D development in Islam.

The intention of workshop was to popularize science in an immense framework through effective science communication. The session will address how media can promote science, technology and innovation.
