STAFF REPORT LHR: A one-day seminar on Recycling Ideas and Solid Waste Management was organised by Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) in collaboration with the department of Environmental Science, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).


There was a comprehensive talk on “Waste to Energy” by Wasif Azhar (LWMC Manger Waste to Energy Project). Assistant Manager Communications Asad Ahmed and Rehman Rashid talked about the role of public sector particularly women in efforts of waste management in the city.


Col Mumtaz, Chief Editor, The Environ Monitor, also highlighted the need of waste management by concerned department in collaboration with citizens.


Prof. Dr. Arifa Tahir, Head of Environmental Science Department, positively emphasized the need for collaboration of LWMC to provide a platform for student of Environmental Science Department for research purpose and in a long run for job particularly for women.


The session ended on visit of invited speakers and faculty members to the exhibition held in department entitled “Recycling Ideas and SWM” arranged by BS students to use waste paper cardboard, plastic articles in recycling.


Efforts of students were admired highly by all invited members. A camp was also setup in the university to students briefing, distribution of leaflets and registration of complaints.
