SIUT & Civil Hospital endorsed Pakistan's first robotic surgery

For the first time the Civil Hospital Karachi and the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) witnessed Pakistan’s victorious robotic surgery on the concluding day of the three-day international multidisciplinary robotic surgery workshop. The robotic surgical procedure was carried out on a female patient at hospital in Karachi.

The woman from Balochistan had stubborn bleeding acquiring numerous transfusions. Through robotic surgery the procedure called hysterectomy was performed in which the uterus of the 55-year old patient was detached. The patient will be discharged after 24 hours.

Robotic surgeons’ team comprising Professor Shamim Khan of the King’s College London and Dr Kankipati Shanti Raju from Guys and St Thomas Hospitals London performed the procedure along with a team of surgeons from the SIUT and the Civil Hospital.

Medical professionals have described the successful conduct as a milestone in the meadow of robotic surgery in Pakistan for the most part in the field of gynaecology. This robotic surgical procedure would open latest glimpse of robotic surgery in the country.
