Dr. Muhammad Ali Shaikh Vice Chancellor Sindh Madrassa tul Islam University (SMIU) said that SMIU was establishing vocational Institute,a primary school, and a ‘Women Resource Center’ (WRC) to empower the local community of Malir district,at its Malir campus also in Darsan Chhano and Gadap town of Karachi city.

He said this while scrutinizingcurrent construction of the two-storey building of the school, vocational institute and the WRC at SMIU’s Malir campus.

VC said that Department of Environmental Science would also be established at Malir campus in the second phase because research work on the environment is more suitable area.  “By providing quality primary, technical and vocational education to empower local community is our main objective,” he said.

“We want to help local women by giving them best learning and technical facilities to utilize their skills for a better life,” the VC said and added that the vocational school included four technical components counting plumbing, general electrical, mobile repairing and television mechanics.

He said that the path of community service of late Dr. Ruth Paul should be followed who had left her country and dedicated her whole life to serving Pakistan.

VC directed the concerneddepartments of the university, engaged in the development work at the campus, to speed up the work and make a complete plan. He recommended that plan should be one under which modern and quality education with up-to-date facilities offered to students at SMIU’s previously mentioned school and centers.

The registrar attended the event among Planning and Development director, Finance director, deans of various faculties and other administrative staff of SMIU.
