Event - DSC_0076STAFF REPORT KHI: Speakers at a seminar stressed the need for having a strong liaison between academia and industry that would guarantee a sustained track of progress in Pakistan.

The seminar was arranged by the Deparment of Microbiology, Federal Urdu University (FUUAST), Medical Microbiology Associtaion of Pakistan (MMAP) and Dimension Research on Clinical Research importance and Pharmacovigilance in the universitys Gulshan Campus.

In his remarks on the occasion, Sikandar Sherwani, a renowned microbiologist categorically stated that today science is on traditional grounds rather interdisciplinary. He was of the view that our scientists are doing wonders in laboratories regarding research, screening natural products, developing therapeutics but nobody is helping us in terms of funds and making our product at industrial level.

Khurram Zaki, CEO Dimension research, introduced with the audience the concepts and science of Pharmacovigilance. He addressed that Pharmacovigilance or drug safety includes the activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problem.

In his remarks, Zaki laid his stress on adverse drug reactions, or ADRs, and encouraged the medical community to mark any response to a drug which is noxious and unintended, including lack of efficacy.

Prof. Arif Zubair, Dean Science-FUUAST, addressed audience that science has many areas and avenues and Clinical research is one of them which has high demand everywhere.
