Strict action will be taken against cutting of trees on Embassy Road Islamabad said the National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change.

Malik Muhammad Uzair Khan, Chairman Committee in Parliament house has chaired the meeting in which CDA official was questioned about cutting of trees on Embassy road, Kashmir Chowk, and Ayub Chowk. Trees were chopped down in different areas of federal capital for the expansion of roads replied the CDA officials.

An underpass project on Zero Point is in pipeline while expansion projects of embassy road and Kashmir Chowk to Auyb Chowk are under construction.

The committee asked for detail from CDA to committee regarding cutting of trees at the next meeting.

Focal Person on Green Pakistan Project informed committee about tree plantations plan for complete protection to planted trees and briefed the project.

Referring to the carelessness of relevant departments as the purpose behind the lessening in forests of Pakistan, he worried on need to enhance performance of forest department. The committee prescribed that 3rd party assessment and checking policy ought to be set up in this manner.

Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) has also briefed the standing committee about updated policy of growing seeds, suggested that Climate Resilient Policy needed to be prepared.

It also briefed on the report of adding poisonous substance to water in the Rawal Dam, Islamabad.

The committee expressed dissatisfaction over the briefing regarding Rawal Dam Islamabad and asked for a joint report from relevant departments on the matter.

Malik Ihtebar Khan, MNA, Muhammad Moeen Wattoo, MNA, Tahira Aurangzeb, MNA, Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, MNA, Kiran Imran Dar, MNA, Shahnaz Saleem, MNA, Mussarat Ahmed Zeb, MNA, Naeema Kishwer Khan and the officials of Ministry of Climate Change, CDA and PARC also attended the meeting.
