TEVTA to train prisoners across Punjab

TEVTA has trained more than 6000 male and female prisoners last year howeverin current yearthe number will be raised a 12,000 said, Chairman Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Irfan Qaiser Sheikh.
Chairman further explained that 6 types of courses are being offered for female prisoners including Domestic and Industrial Stitching, Embroidery and Beautician. Whereas nine courses including Electrician, Computer, Welder, Motorbike Mechanic, Carpenter and Home Appliances Repair are being offered for male prisoners whileaddressing the meeting at TEVTA Secretariat regarding reviewing the training programs at Punjab Prisons in collaboration with Home Department.
He added that TEVTA is offering courses free of cost at 15 different Prisons across the province but it will be extended to 10 more Prisons. TEVTA will also start in districts of Pakpattan, Okara, Vehari, Jhang, and others as previously were being offered in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Gujranwala, DG Khan, Sialkot.
Chairman TEVTA observed that our jails are not educating the prisoners as well more linking them to crime is general perception in society. He said to change their lives after getting out of prisonsTEVTA took the initiative. He added that vision of Punjab Government is to get a reasonable earning opportunity for prisoner after release from prison.
Irfan further elucidated that reason and vision behind such courses successfully running across the province as TEVTA wanted prisoners to be an active part of the society. He said adding that by extending the project in 10 more districts will make available more and more prisoners skilled training.
