STAFF REPORT MTN: The mango growers have expressed concern over “tough export procedures and formalities” which are hindering the mango export to US and demanded the higher authorities to ease the process which would help obtaining $30 million orders.
“US has allowed mango export after 64 years and USAID is working to promote the mango industry in Pakistan,” said Multan Mango Grower Association President Maj (R) Tariq told the media.
He said they had exported three consignments to the US last year by PIA flights from Lahore. He said that the United Stat Development for Agriculture (USDA) had allowed Pakistan to send mangoes to only Schicago but PIA suspended the Lahore-Schicago flight thus created hurdles in mango exports.
“Mango growers are facing problems due to the recommended route. Flights to Schicago are available on other routes but USDA has banned other routes for the export of the fruit. Exports worth $3.5 from the Latifabad mango form have been suspended over the issue,” he added.
