Extension agents from all over Mozambique are benefiting from a one-month training course provided by Chinese agricultural experts on productive technology of rice, maize and vegetable, which starts on Thursday in Matola province.

Training course on agricultural know-how offered by Chinese experts starts in Mozambique

Announcing on the opening ceremony of the course in China-Mozambique Agricultural Demonstration Center in Matola, the Director of Mozambican Agrarian Research Institute Olga Fafitine said the selected products are of great importance to the diet of Mozambican families as they contribute to the country’s food security.

“In this plan, maize, rice and vegetables are part of the 15 strategic products and of the 6 priority chains for the development and investments in the agrarian sector,” said the director.

According to the director, the 30-day course is divided into three modules; the first technology for rice production benefiting 30 trainees, the second module will be looking into technologies for vegetables production for 30 trainees and the third module for maize production, 40 trainees.

“If each trainee here returns and implement the new techniques in their farms and influence 100 farmers around him, we will reach 10,000 producers ready to produce and commercialize,” said Olga.

The training course was hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of China and organized by the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center of China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, aiming to help Mozambique improve agricultural production technology and increase production capacity
