MONITORING DESK ISB: The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) has awarded the TWAS Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman Prize in Chemistry to Prof. Mirabbos Hojamberdiev from Uzbekistan.


The award has been given at the TWAS annual general conference held in Vienna, Austria.


An official of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi (UoK) said that the award has been to Prof. Mirabbos in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of nanotechnology.”


The Prize was instituted by TWAS 5 years ago to honour the world famous scientist Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman and is given each year to a leading young scientist in the field of chemistry from the developing world. The $6000 Prize carries a cash award and a certificate.


TWAS has its Headquarters in Trieste Italy and the organization was established by the Pakistani Nobel laureate Prof. Abdus Salam with assistance from the Italian government.


It is pertinent to mention here that Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, who also headed the Higher Education Commission Pakistan as chairman, has received world-wide recognition for his contributions to science. He received the highest civil award of the Government of Austria in 2007, and also the highest Award of the Chinese Government conferred by the Prime Minister of China on the National Day of China on 28th September 2014.
