UNDP Launches Vocational Training Programme

In collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ChaseUp Shopping City, Pakistan’s leading retail chain of departmental stores, has launched a comprehensive skill-based training programme in Karachi.

Providing both theoretical knowledge and practical training in retail operations and management, the 23-day training programme aims to enable unemployed youth, particularly from the backward urban areas to gain economic autonomy through skill enhancement and vocational training.

Upon successful completion of the training programme, each student will receive a stipend of Rs. 25,000 together with a training completion certificate from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Comprising a total of 39 classroom hours coupled with 70-hours on-the-job training, the training programme covers such crucial business areas as sales, customer service, retail management and operations, communication skills, personality development, etc. The first batch of the programme consists of selected candidates with at least matriculation level of education, belonging to Orangi Town, Lyari, Kemari, Khuda Ki Basti and other poor areas of the city. 

Addressing the inaugural session of the programme, Salman Bashir, Chief Executive, ChaseUp Shopping City, said the retail sector is one of the leading business sectors in Pakistan, providing jobs to hundreds of thousands of people across the country.

In his address, Mustafa Bashir, Director, ChaseUp Shopping City, said consistent efforts are being to launch skill-based training programmes in collaboration with leading business schools and vocational institutes to create more employment opportunities and overcome the shortage of skilled resources in the field of retail operations and management in particular.
