UNIDO awarded Pakistani innovators in different categories

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under its Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) has granted 5 awards to the most promising Pakistani innovators in the field of clean technologies.
According to the press release award ceremony was held in Islamabad to appreciate most promising Pakistani innovators.
This year GCIP granted awards under different categories. ‘Modulus Tech’ team has won the first prize for designing a low of a low cost, energy efficient houses.
‘Biotech’ team that made a dual function solar system for rural areas, which can run water pumps and flour mills was the runner-up.
‘Aerosync’ team led by a woman who comes up with an idea for an innovative solar power cart for roadside street vendors has received from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI). Another winner was ‘Crean’ which introduced the technology for utilizing and regenerating old batteries.
Federal Secretary for Climate Syed Abu Ahmed Akif stressed the importance of clean technology innovations in mitigating the harmful effects caused by climate change. He appreciated the work of UNIDO, GEF and its local partners in organizing the GCIP. He further said that this annual competition nurtures green entrepreneurship. It also supports marketable solutions to global environmental challenges.
ICCI President Sheikh Amir Waheed said in clean technology investments in Pakistan, he wants local and international investors to become front-runners.
He said that partnership between investors and innovators in commercialization of ideas and introducing innovative products in the market.
UNIDO Country Representative Nadia Aftab shared the vision of the UNIDO on energy and environment in promoting clean technologies.
Alois Mhlanga, GCIP Project Manager from UNIDO also appreciated the achievements of GCIP in Pakistan.
