STAFF REPORT ISB: USAID through its Training for Pakistan Project (TFP) funded eight representatives from Pakistans public and private sectors to attend a two-week on-farm water management and command area development training in Australia.

At a recently held debriefing in Islamabad the delegates reflected on their positive benefits of the training and outlined plans to utilize their training to ensure more farmers across Pakistan use efficient irrigation methods.

Speaking at the debrief, participants emphasized that there is much to be learned from other water-stressed countries on efficient water management for agricultural purposes by utilizing advanced and improved irrigation methods.

They stressed the need for farmers to adopt better on-farm irrigation techniques. The efficient and modern methods of irrigation such as furrow, syphon, drip, sprinkle, pivot, are still not widely used by Pakistani farmers.
