STAFF REPORT LHR: A three-member delegation from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has recently visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS) and appreciated the universitys dynamic role in boosting the livestock sector in the country.

The delegation comprising USDA Advisor Ian Winborne, Senior Agriculture Specialist Asmat Raza and Veterinary Specialist Mubshara, accompanied by Animal Husbandry Commissioner Dr Kursheed Ahmad and FAO representative Dr Muhammad Afzal discussed the prospects of collaboration between the UVAS and USDA for improving livestock and exploiting the animal potential at the maximum level.

On the occasion, Ian Winborne said that the US government would provide all-out technical support to farmers community to uplift the rural economy. He said that the USDA has also offered capacity building training to the professionals how to handle model modern dairy farming practices.

The delegation also visited the Ravi Campus at Pattoki and took a round of the livestock-related facilities.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha briefed the delegation on the universitys research programmes especially in dairy sector and said, “Dairy is the most attractive sector for investment because of its value-added products.”
