Naegleria is an amoeba usually found in warm freshwater such as lakes, rivers, swimming pools and while pouring water to nose. Only one species of Naegleria infects people that is Naegleria fowleri. Its size ranges from 8-15 µm, depends on its life phases and environment.

Naegleria basically enters through the nose while pouring water into the nose, diving head-in into the water and then gradually moves to the brain where the virus destroys the tissues.

The exposure of brain eating virus arises within 2 to 15 days and typically lead to death within a week. Naelgeria symptoms including fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of balance, sleepiness and change in the sense of smell or taste.

It is pertinent to mention here that it shouldn’t be too scary, people rarely get infected and the probability of having the brain-eating virus take over your body is limited, but if there is a warning on a pool or lake then it is better to stay away.
