To mark the celebration of international women day an event was organized at PCRWR to highlight the role of women in science in collaboration with Technology Times and ICIMOD.

Speaking at the occasion speakers expressed that gender equality in STEM disciplines is missing in Pakistan which is causing lack of women role models in science and technology.

Speaking on the occasion guest of honor Dr. Bushra Mirza, Professor and Chairperson of department of Biochemistry Quaid-e-Azam University emphasized women empowerment is directly related to development of science. She also told that progress of women is the progress of mankind.

Mr. Abdul Wahid Jasra conveyed the message of Dr. David James Molden, Director General (ICIMOD) and highlighted the role of ICIMOD in introducing woman participation in the development programmers of ICIMOD, especially in mountainous areas, as women living in mountainous areas of the country are poorest of the poor.

Earlier Ms. Lubna Naheed Bukhari in her opening remarks said that International Women’s Day belongs to all communities everywhere – governments, companies, charities, educational institutions, networks, associations, the media and more.

Tasbeeha Saeed representative of Technology Times told that Science and gender equality are both vital for sustainable development yet woman and girls continued to be excluded from participating fully in science less than 30 % of researchers worldwide are woman.

Sayyed Paras CEO Technology Times in his closing remarks told that there is a sudden drop in the enrollment of female students in higher studies  and there is a need of societal change to overcome this situation.

Representative from PARC, Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, also exchanged their views. A large number of students from Bahria University and Islamic International University witness the event.
