STAFF REPORT ISB: A high profile training “Agro-Livestock Marketing and Branding Workshop” has recently been organized by School of Professional Advancement (SPA) at University of Management and Technology Lahore in collaboration with University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS).

The main focus of this initiative was to share current trends and traditional practices used by our farmers in marketing their agro-livestock products and to share marketing and branding experiences for understanding and knowledge gaining.

Ruman Wassay, Group Manager, Auriga Chemicals, discussed various issues pertaining to the marketing of agricultural commodities in Pakistan. He said that our farmers are not using any marketing rule properly in the marketing of their agricultural food stuff as nobody cares for proper packaging material, grading and processing etc.

On the occasion, he also shared his personal experience of his visit to Indian groundnut industry which is making milk, curd and cheese by using groundnut whereas it is mainly used for the eating purpose in winter season in our country.

Kalil Arbi, Assistant Professor, SPA, UMT, said that marketing is an important and challenging task for all farmers and livestock producers. He mentioned that marketing best practices are very much important for exporting agricultural and livestock products.

He said that Pakistani producers should pay much attention to the techniques for building their brands. The main issues for Pakistani producers are lack of compliances and technical business knowledge.
