STAFF REPORT RWP: A three-day international workshop on “Sustainable Agriculture Water Management in a Changing Environment – A special Focus on Olive Tree” was held at the Pir Mehar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR). The aim of the workshop was to sensitize policy makers and bring experts, researchers and stakeholder together for use of advanced agriculture techniques which are environmentally sustainable and may improve agriculture productivity especially olive production.



Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmed while addressing the inaugural ceremony said, “Olive production can significantly boost countrys economy and reduce import of olive products especially edible oil. The objective can only be materialized if we adapt sustainable agriculture water management to improve the efficiency of overall process from farming to production and empowering the farmer through facilitation and subsidizing and equipping with modern farming techniques”.



Federal Minster for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal attended the event as chief guest. He stressed on need of adapting modern technologies in agriculture sector in order to uplift it for sustainable development and economic growth of country. He also emphasized on improving the water storage capacity in order by effective management of water resources in agriculture sector keeping in line the water scarcity issue of Pakistan.



The groundbreaking of Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (AEandT) at the campus was also done which is established by a cost of Rs751 million and would considerably contribute to improve educational infrastructure as well as agricultural technology at varsity.
