STAFF REPORT ISB: Participants at the workshop on “5G Technologies for Disaster Management” explored the disaster and emergency management by 5G technologies through knowledge sharing and random interaction.

The four-day workshop was aimed at opening new dimensions for researchers to explore ways of confronting the disasters with the help of 5G technologies.

The 5G technologies make it useful and feasible solution for communication services in extreme emergency situations where the fast and effective deployment of communication network infrastructure is impossible.

HEC Office of Research and Innovation and British Council, under Researchers Link Initiative, arranged the workshop.

The themes of panel discussions include, Role of Electronic and Social Media in Disaster Management, Role of Law Enforcement Agencies in Disaster Management, Role of Academia in Disaster Management, and Role of Civil Society and Community in Disaster Management.

In his remarks on the occaiosn, HEC Chairman Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said that under HEC and British Council in collaboration with different universities are undertaking a number of projects.He said researchers should focus on research that has an impact on the society.

PTA Chairman, Dr Syed Ismail Shah, said that PTA would facilitate institutions for service testing and technical support. He said that 4G services are available in Pakistan about broadband connectivity in all IT based systems, adding that spectrum should be available for 5G technology.
