A financing agreement signed between the Pakistan government and World Bank worth US$100 million for Sindh Solar Energy Project to enlarge solar power generation and right to use electricity in the province.

CUI Signs First Patent Commercialization with Local Industry

Noor Ahmed Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) signed the financing agreement on behalf of the Government of Pakistan while Musadiq Ahmed Khan, Secretary Energy Department signed the project harmony on behalf of Government of Sindh. World Bank Country Director Patchamuthu Ilangovan signed the agreements on account of International Development Association (IDA).

The energy project will support deployment of solar power in Sindh extend three market segments: utility scale, distributed generation, and households.

Utility-scale solar includes development of solar parks to support private sector investment and launching of Pakistan’s first spirited command for solar power production, starting with an initial 50MW pilot solar mart.

Distributed solar includes at least 20MW of distributed solar PV on the rooftops and other available spaces on and around public sector buildings in Karachi, Hyderabad and other districts of Sindh.

Sindh solar energy project will also aimed to endow with solar home systems to 200,000 households in areas with low or no electricity access. The total cost of the project is $105 million. The ultimate goal of project is to aid Pakistan towards a low-carbon path to development.

Noor Ahmed Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) honored the World Bank for extending its incessant support to Pakistan in its efforts to attain sustainable economic development.
