The God gifted us with beautiful world now it’s our responsibilities to save it for the future generation.

The International Day of Forests was first established on the 21st of March, by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012. Each year, on this day various events are celebrated and awareness about the importance of all types of forests and trees outside forests is raised for the benefit of current and future generations. Countries are encouraged to undertake efforts to organize local, national and international activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns, on International Day of Forests.

The event was organized with the name ‘Tree Legacy’ the purpose of the event was about planting trees and leaving a legacy behind. It was the first of its kind initiative taken by IST in which students planted trees and carved plates with their names mentioned on them. Almost 300 saplings of ‘Ficus Amstel Queen’ were planted in IST premises. This effort was done as a gesture of love and gift from the students to planet Earth, because World Forest Day is not just about celebrating, it is about giving something to your nature to make it greener and cleaner.

On this Occasion Deputy Director Horticulture Department Liaqat Wazir was also present who helped out Environmental Society IST in making this event possible. The Chief Guests for the event was Dr. Asif Israr, HOD of Mechanical Department, Director Admin. Col.Khurram Humayoun and Deputy Director Admin. Col.Tariq Anees from IST.

In a nutshell, we encourage our youth to execute such initiatives at regional and National level so that we all can contribute in our fight against global warming climate change hand in hand. The provision of souvenirs from junior students to senior students is quite usual in our educational culture, why not we start executing Tree Legacy as a gift from seniors to the whole institute, as our breakthrough towards a greener Pakistan. Such event should take place every year so that we can payback something to the nature.
